Master of Education Administration (MA)

The Master of Education Administration at The University of Georgia is a two-year, English-taught degree for people who want to run schools, departments or education programmes rather than only teach in them. Studying it in Tbilisi means working through leadership, policy and quality-assurance material in a system that is itself actively reforming its schools and universities, which gives classroom discussion a live reference point.

Who this program suits

This suits teachers, deputy heads, education NGO staff and ministry or administrative employees who want a formal management qualification and can commit to four semesters in Tbilisi. It also works for recent graduates aiming at education policy or programme coordination. It is not a teaching-qualification course, not a route to a classroom teaching licence, and not suited to those wanting a purely research-based degree in education psychology.

What you study

  • Educational leadership theory and the role of the school principal
  • Education policy, reform processes and governance structures
  • Human resource management and staff development in schools
  • School finance, budgeting and resource planning
  • Quality assurance, accreditation and institutional evaluation
  • Research methods and a master's thesis in education administration

Where it leads

  • School principal, deputy head or academic coordinator in private and international schools
  • Administrator or quality-assurance officer in a university or college
  • Programme manager with an education NGO or donor-funded project
  • Policy or planning officer in a ministry, municipality or education agency
  • Teacher trainer and professional development coordinator
  • Progression to doctoral study in education; the diploma is a recognised Georgian master's degree, but employers or public-sector bodies abroad may require their own recognition check

What it costs

Tuition is $4,000 per academic year, so around $8,000 across the two years of the programme. Living in Tbilisi typically costs $300-450 a month covering shared or modest rented accommodation, food, local transport and everyday expenses. Budget separately for your visa and residence permit, travel to Georgia, and document translation or legalisation before you arrive.

What the university asks for

The University of Georgia asks for your bachelor's degree diploma, a transcript of records showing the subjects and grades from that degree, and the pages of your passport carrying your personal details, photo and signature. Documents in other languages usually need certified translation, and your bachelor's degree must be completed before enrolment. The next intake is Spring 2026.

Questions students ask

Does this MA qualify me to teach in a Georgian school?

No. It is an administration and leadership degree, not an initial teacher-training programme. It prepares you for management roles such as principal, coordinator or education administrator. If you want to teach in a classroom, you would need a separate teaching qualification.

Is the whole programme taught in English?

Yes, instruction, coursework and the master's thesis are in English across all four semesters. Knowing some Georgian helps with daily life in Tbilisi and with any school placements or fieldwork, but it is not required to complete the degree.

Can I work while studying in Tbilisi?

Many international students take part-time work, often in language teaching or private schools. Whether you may do so depends on the terms of your own residence permit, so confirm your status with the migration authorities rather than assuming. Class schedules over four semesters still require regular attendance.
